Legends - Kamaraj and Gandhi

Thanks kandha for the writeup.

Kamaraj

1. A man so much into public service that he reiterates it in every second of his life. He proves it…just not for the sake of proving……but really mean it when,

a. He scolds his mother for getting a water tap inside the house

b. He asks his family not to look for a girl for him

c. He turns down CM post

2. Absolutely practical and task oriented,

a. Scolds a officer for holding approval to send a child abroad for an eye surgery. He says “Indhamaadhiri kariyam pakka thaan neenga ellam. Oru kariyatha panna mudiyalai nu sollaradhu ku neenga ellam officer nu edhukku…………neenga sollara rules u procedure u ellame kaariyam panna thaan...”

b. Meets public in his home for grievance redressal.

c. Asks a police man to leave because a child is stopped from meeting him.

3. Never favors anyone based on money or political party or education,

a. Discuss issues with peasants first so that they can catch their bus on return journey and informs IAS officers who has vehicles to wait.

b. Appreciates a Collector for taking strict actions against the rich man for his faults.

c. Supports Indira Gandhi for PM and then later regrets when she takes up EMERGENCY.

4. Totally opposes Illicit Liquor and feels that all his life’s efforts including Freedom fight against British Raj have been wasted when they are brought back into the state.

5. Never an economist, never a political lobbyist, never an industrialist, never delivered inspiring speeches, never wrote a poem in his life, never loved a girl or had any illicit relationship, never a project manager, never scholar, never a sports man, never created anything artistic or beautiful…………..pure passion…..pure passion to server India………….thoughts, actions, desire, motive, courage, soul, spirit and dedication only to server INDIA and TAMILNADU benefitted because of him. People call it the “Golden era” for Tamil Nadu and I am sure people felt it and lived it that way.

Gandhi Ji

1. I like it when everyone thinks the people in power controls the country and HE alone thinks that HE is actually in control of the country. He makes rules understand whom they rule determine weather they should be ruled or not and it is not the other way around.

2. He starts the Independence movement. After first few days riots broke out and few police men are killed. He immediately calls of the protest. All the important leaders try to convince him not to stop because of few deaths, he responds “Try telling that to the family who have lost their relatives………If I want to have a protest then it should be a protest without death”

3. I cannot belive someone can tell you to go and suffer………and you will thank him or appreciate him for that. Gandhi told the country to go and get beatings from British Raj and not to retaliate…..People did that………I am sure this is a different HISTORY.

4. His passion to follow whatever he says. Even if people do not follow what he says or practices he would continue to do it. It is kind of making you GUILTY for not doing it and then making people feel good when they do it.

5. I don’t know if anyone could write in their autobiography that they were loitering the streets in their teenage to visit brothels.

6. He was sensitive to criticizms and had great friends to make him see them in the right spirit.

7. Water can rust iron. Water cannot break steel, but when water turns into ice we saw it cutting steel in TITANIC. Similarly…………..Truth, Love, selflessness and Non-violance at its purest form overcame anarchy and opression through mass movement.

8. When people criticizes Gandhi’s son for his behaviour he attributed that to himself. He says that he did not take care of his sick father and was in the private rooms with his wife. The son who was born through his vice and his inability to serve his father in the hour of sickness would have such characters is not surprising.

9. I am sometimes confused if he really understood people or he does not understand people at all. His ability in preaching Ahimsa and ability to oppose British Raj with ease proves that he understand mass psychology. His inability not to understand that Hindus and Muslim differences cannot be resolved easily and the casteism that is wide spread in his followers. Most of his followers were not just statesmen but have an acumen of jacals and do not serve selfelssly beats me.

10. His expectations that Inida should have politician like “Kalifas” was just day dreaming.

11. I feel it was not for the personality called “Gandhiji” that India got unified……it was for the common GOAL against British Raj that people got united.

12. What amazes me is that his passion for Independence made him ask “MONEY” from any person he meets. He collected money like anything and made sure the independence movement did not slow down. Financing the movements were well done.

13. Walking, white clothes, bald head, hand watch, round glasses, smile……everything adds to the uniquness of his personality and charisma. In the current scenario I could use the word “Brand Value” for Gandhism.

14. At least in India, I feel “Gandhi and Non-violance” should be a subject in schools like English or Tamil.

Thanks and Regards,

Kandha Kumar
